Sloppy Joes
A Christina Fogal Original Recipe
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
1 pound ground turkey, chicken or beef
1 large onion, chopped
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder
3 tablespoons vinegar
3 tablespoons prepared mustard
3 tablespoons miracle whip salad dressing
1 can (10.75 oz.) condensed tomato soup
To serve:
Yummy hamburger buns (brioche bun, pictured)
Pickles, optimal
Coleslaw, optional
Directions:
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil (if using ground turkey) over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the ground turkey, chicken or beef (omit oil if using beef). Break up the meat and fry until the meat is no longer pink. Add the chopped onion and continue frying until the onion is translucent. (If using ground beef, drain the fat before the next step.)
With the heat still on, sprinkle the sugar and chili powder over the meat and mix in.
Stir in the vinegar, mustard, miracle whip and condensed tomato soup.
Mix well.
Lower the heat to medium low and stir the sauce often, to prevent sticking. Continue cooking for 20-30 minutes or until the sauce is nice and thick. (When a spatula is pulled through the sloppy joe mixture, the sauce remains separated). The red color of the sauce will also deepen.
Serve with your favorite buns, pickles and coleslaw!
